Downtown Omaha Redevelopment plan approved!

Another Downtown Condo  neighborhood being refreshed in Omaha?

The City Council has just said YES to this question and those that live in the South 10th Street neighborhood (PDF of the neighborhood) from Frederick Street to Pierce Street will be overjoyed.
The District plan goes in depth about what the focus will be for the neighborhood.  Due to the neighborhood being developed with much streetcar traffic there used to be a positive focus on pedestrian accessibility.  This plan aims to support and enhance that. The structures of the district are mentioned in the plan as well.  The uniqueness of the buildings gives a certain "form" that the city would like to preserve; all of which offer direct access to the streets or sidewalks.  The plan further supports walkways for pedestrians by placing limitations on vehicular parking and curb cuts and requiring that new parking structures be created.  Signage for the community will also be redeveloped to focus on pedestrian access and readability. Overall the "Pedestrian Friendly" feel of the neighborhood will be brought back and this District project (details here) lays the foundation on how to accomplish this!
